New Year, 2017 Lessons

  1. Take a break from social media for 3 days, it will work wonders.
My friends and I accidentally bid farewell to social media. We went to Siargao and the place we stayed had bad signal. We were like, okay fuck it, we’re on vacation.

We still took photos, we still had our phones, but being disconnected from everyone online has never been super refreshing.

It was like reinventing myself, I’ve never had a fulfilling, restful vacation in years. We came home with a new perspective, a better mood and an awesome tan.

  1. You can’t force love.
If they don’t like you, they probably never will. Don’t waste your time expecting a change of heart. Don’t go begging someone to love you back, do not cross oceans, do not catch stars. What’s meant to be will crawl to you. I know you’ve been bombarded with mainstream advices on how to get over him, and you’ll probably hate us because “we don’t know what you’re going through, we don’t know the depth of your relationship.”

It’s simply black and white. If he/she wants to be with you, then you wouldn’t be stuck in that situation.

You can never turn a yellow bird blue, you can just paint them and when it rains, God, when it rains, you’re still the fool.

  1. Do not fuck up your sleeping schedule
Last December, I’m guilty of going out every single night to party. There were a few nights I stayed in, but read a book till dawn. My eyes were so bad, that I looked like a raccoon, well I still started the new year looking like one. Last month I have been entirely unhealthy that every waking moment I’d already feel extremely exhausted. I’m gonna jot down a solution for me, for us:

Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00. Sleep at 10:00.

I scream, as I sleep walk through January.

  1. You do not owe anyone an explanation to some of your decisions.
One day, I left —and I’m just so glad that I was able to get out of a situation that was bad for me. A handful of you know what I am talking about, maybe you’re even part of it. I’ll spare the drama and not mention names considering that you can ask anyone about it and they pretty much will call the person out. Sometimes, silence is the explanation.

A year ago, I would’ve pictured out a different scenario, a different group, all that. I promised a boy that I would change “for him” and even when he left halfway, I continued to change for me. I said no to a million things I would’ve said yes to a year ago. Again, I’ve seen what was good and what was right for me.

Do whatever you think is right, pick the better choice, the one that doesn’t get you in trouble.

People might spread lies as to why you cut connection. Know that those who believe, those who do not confirm nor confront you are irrelevant. For as long as those who matter know the truth, everything is alright. What’s important is that you are free from the chains that bind you with ratchet individuals/things/decisions.

You do not deserve pain nor punishment for something you didn’t cause. Stay away from the fire if you don’t want to burn.

Pick your friends, be with the right group. You know best. Trust your father when he says “she’s no good for you.”

Pick the right path baby, always.

  1. Take care of your body, but give in to your cravings, sometimes.
This sentence is a sign that you should eat right. This is a sign that you should go for a run. It’s never too late to snag that body you’ve always longed for. Start now (don’t forget to treat yourself too!)

  1. Don’t be afraid
Don’t be afraid to take a leap
Don’t be afraid to try
Don’t be afraid to let go
Don’t be afraid to leave
Don’t be afraid to try again
Don’t be afraid to show your feelings
Don’t be afraid to quit
Don’t be afraid to start all over
Don’t be afraid to say no
Don’t be afraid to show them what you got
Don’t be afraid of tomorrows
